Whale watching is a very popular option for public schools, private schools, and home school groups. Newport Landing has been providing students with a unique whale watching experience for over 25 years. Each year over 400 school groups from Orange County and the greater Southern California region come out with Newport Landing on one of our whale watching cruises. Our whale watching experiences are not only for viewing over half dozen different types of whales, but also dolphins and other marine mammals. Students will get the chance to see a diverse marine eco system in a dynamic on-the-ocean learning environment.

Choose from multiple cruise times daily year round. Customized cruise times can be arranged depending on group size. Whale watching cruises are 2 ½ hours in length. Winter and spring months coincide with the famous Gray Whale Migration and summer and fall months the Giant Blue Whale Migration. Mega pods of dolphin and other whales are viewed year round.

Our Whale Watching Experience includes:

• A field trip aboard one of our safe and insured vessels to potentially view whales, dolphins, sea lions, and marine birds.
• Knowledgeable crew members on board the vessel to give information and answer questions about the sightings, boat, and other related inquiries.
• Grade-level appropriate curriculum packets that can be printed and used to brief students on what they may be seeing on their trip and how it connects with what they are studying (see links below).
• Post trip activity sheets that connect with state standards, which can be printed and given to students as a follow up learning activity

Newport Landing Whale Watching offers group rates for whale watching cruises starting at group sizes of 20 persons or above. On a case by case basis we may consider lowering the group size cap to take advantage of group pricing. Below is the price per person for different group sizes.  Some customization of our cruise times is possible for groups of 50 persons or above.  Nonrefundable deposits may be requested for group reservations and are customarily 50% of total cost. Please contact us for more info.  Private rentals are also available for groups of all sizes.

Newport Landing offers private whale watching cruise rentals for all size groups and organizations.  Private rentals allow for a customized experience and enable the cruise to travel to certain locations and/or follow a desire to view specific mammals.  A private rental also allows for catering and onboard activities during the cruise.  Several attendants are onboard to help assist with serving and handle any questions or needs that may arise. Typically whale watching cruises are 2.5 hours in length, but with private rentals cruise lengths can be shorted or extended based on the requirements of your group.  Regardless of the event, Newport Landing will strive to ensure that it surpasses expectations and leaves a lasting memory for you and your guests.
